Potential issues you may encounter while using
A handful of apps might need a minor tweak to run properly with DaDesktop
Snags during Fresh Start cloning and the available fixes
Most applications behave completely normally when set up in a Fresh Start machine using DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of apps don't play ball after cloning because of the process, so they need a few extra steps to get them working right.
- Oracle Database Server - You'll need to change the hostname from the duplicated one to 127.0.0.1
- Hyper-V server - Hyper-V struggles with duplicate MAC addresses when the External switch is on after cloning from the FreshStart machine
- Google Chrome - Chrome might not launch properly on cloned machines because it's still tied to the Fresh Start machine's profile, especially if that machine wasn't shut down completely during cloning.
- WSL - Windows System for Linux - In our testing, we've found that DaDesktop machines with WSL installed aren't portable—moving a DaDesktop machine with WSL to another DD server will stop it booting. The reason isn't clear, but we think Windows makes assumptions about the hardware it's installed on, and shifting to different hardware causes problems. Because WSL isn't commonly used for training (most people use Linux directly), we haven't fully chased this up yet.
- Issues where a trial software licence uses the MAC address to track the licence - In this case, the licence was pegged to a MAC address, so once the machine was cloned it looked like the licence had already been activated and burnt.

Apps that need licences might have to be installed after the FreshStart clone.
Other issues that may crop up when using DaDesktop
-
Very slow VirtualBox seen when Hyper-V and VirtualBox are both running (this happens outside of DaDesktop too)
Problem: VirtualBox becomes painfully slow on Windows machines, making it nearly impossible to run a course, but the fix is dead simple:-
Solution 1: Remove Hyper-V virtualisation from Windows:https://www.wintips.org/fix-virtualbox-running-very-slow-in-windows-10-11/
Solution 2: Apply the Hyper-V Server workaround mentioned earlier—otherwise duplicate MAC addresses will be used, causing sluggish performance, boot issues, and other odd behaviour.
- Can't type certain characters like Apostrophes / Quotation Marks, Inverted Commas, into a DaDesktop machine.
